Why Should we Bother with Performance Management? by Hedda Bird

In part 1 of this exclusive video series, Hedda Bird (Managing Director of 3C Performance Management) discusses why organisations should look at how the conduct performance management, and why it is so important. Hedda provides examples from organisations and roles where performance management (if implemented correctly) can save lives.

Bio

Hedda Bird is a specialist in Performance Management and Managing Director of 3C Performance Management, who try to help organisations transform how they manage performance into a future-focused practice that turns strategy into action, underpinned by shared purpose.

Working with clients over many years, Hedda has created the ground-breaking Performance Management Canvas – a radically different model for designing and managing performance. The Canvas starts with shared purpose, people and performance. It brings to the fore the human, social and emotional interactions that are the daily reality of working life. It’s a world away from tinkering with rating scales or backward-looking conversations. Old style approaches to managing performance are bureaucratic, and in most cases failed to deliver value.

In the twenty-first century we need to focus on the future, how can we enable people to take ownership of their work, to collaborate with others to deliver results, how will strategy get turned into action while we cope with dramatic changes happening in the working world, and how does our shared purpose help us manage people and performance to make the most of all our talents. This is what drives me.
