Ali begins by explaining what PSI do and the project which led to PSI winning the ‘Excellence in Assessment’ award. He discusses the importance of the right recruitment process, especially within fire services and how identifying individuals talent prior to hiring is integral to success. He takes us step-by-step through the requirements and stages of the project, explaining the importance of talking to employees to develop a job analysis to understand what would be needed for the positions. Finally, he highlights how the project was assessed and evaluated by stakeholders within the organisation, and how the process has been extended to a UK-wide reach, improving efficiency, with one project making savings of £49,000, consequently bringing in better-suited employees, saving time and money in the long-term.

Ali is a Principal Consultant in the Research and Development function at PSI. An assessment and development specialist, his experience covers all aspects of design and delivery of bespoke and ready-to-use solutions to help organisations identify and develop their talent.
Ali has designed a variety of online measures, including volume sifting tools, situational judgment tests, online work simulations, and personality questionnaires for a wide range of organisations. He has a particular interest in utilising technology and psychology to develop online tools that help deliver an engaging and inclusive user experience. He believes that by designing these tools in the right way, they identify the right talent, promote diversity in the workforce and give them the right development opportunities to thrive in an organisation.
