Have you fallen out of love with your job?

No desire from start to finish

Your alarm goes off…if at this point everyday you are having to dig deep to drag yourself to your job, you definitely have fallen out of love with your role!

Finding out exactly why you have this loss of desire will help you as you move forward to find a new position.

You are stuck

Have you been with your current company for 2 years now and still have no advancement or promotion? Do you have that internal drive to move your career forward but haven’t been given the chance to in your current role? This is the first sign that your job isn’t for you anymore; you need to get on the job search.

Strong performance, good reviews & praise from above should be reflected with compensation and career opportunities so make sure you know how important you are.

You’re withdrawn and have no desire to be social with colleagues

Has your desire to interact with your fellow employees gone? You should feel comfortable and relaxed in your role and a large proportion of that relies on having a good relationship with your colleagues. If your working environment isn’t for you, then this will seriously have an impact on your happiness in your working life. It might be time to move on and when looking for your next role, focus on finding a good company ethos that aligns with how you want to feel at work.

You’re not learning

Do you strive to constantly improve your skills? If your role is not making you feel challenged, this may be a sign that you need to move on. You may not be learning something new every day on the job, but you should be improving upon your core skills and picking up new ones. You often have to take this into your own hands, of course—asking to be involved in a new project, signing up for courses you’re interested in, or attending a relevant conference or seminar in your discipline, for example. But if these possibilities don’t exist at your current job, it’s a sign that the company is not serious about investing in your career development.

Research

Sometimes the best way of finding out if it’s time to move on is to have a browse of the market and what is available. You can look at similar jobs to compare pay & benefits and look at jobs that are the next step up to find what kind of experience you will need to progress and move up the career ladder. Sign up to an agency and tell them that you’re looking to scope the market for potential moves but not necessarily set on a definite move.
