‘Excellence in Wellbeing, Health & Inclusiveness’ Winner by Harriet Western-Williams & Rebecca Milner

In this exclusive video for the BTN, Harriet Western-Williams and Rebecca Milner discuss the project that led to Arup winning the ABP Award for ‘Excellence in Wellbeing, Health & Inclusiveness’.

Harriet and Rebecca begin by discussing the project they conducted with TFL and the Mayor of London. In 2013, over 5,000 vulnerable road users were killed or seriously injured in collisions involving HGV’s, which is disproportionate when you consider the number of HGV’s on the road in comparison to other vehicles. They talk through the step-by-step process the project entailed and how they used virtual environments to assess how HGV design affects the direct vision standard. The project concluded in the introduction of ‘the direct vision standard’ which will save between 16,000 to 65,000 casualties and improve the wellbeing of HGV drivers.
