Annapurna’s Story

2008
Annapurna is founded

In November 2008, Annapurna was founded. In the middle of a financial crash and only their phones to rely on, James, Nigel & Charlie set out building a network within the HR market.

Their goal was to create a responsible, ethical recruitment business which focused on delivering specialist services.

2009-2011
Annapurna Takes Off

Annapurna's 2nd office was at Great Guildford Business Square.

In this time, Annapurna grew from £600k billings in 2009 to exceeding billings of £1m by 2011. They also grew from 4 to 12 employees.

2011-2014
Becoming a multi-award winning firm

In 2011, Annapurna moved to its 3rd office in Southwark Bridge Road where we grew from 12 to 40 employees. New markets were explored and created, including the DACH and Nordic regions. In 2013, Annapurna won an array of awards including best professional services recruitment company in the UK, winner of the innovator award and grew its turnover from £3 to £5 million.

2014
The Business Transformation Network

The Business Transformation Network (The BTN) was founded in 2014, as well as Annapurna Giving (our charitable arm).

2015-2020
5 years of growth

We grew our international markets, including the DACH and Nordic regions and opened an office in Munich. The headcount grew to 90+ employees across London, Munich & Berlin.

2021
Employee networks formed

Annapurna Ellevate was founded - a women's network designed to support women throughout their careers.

In 2022, Annapurna was ranked 46th at the Best Companies Awards for 2022 in the category of Topic 100 Mid-Sized companies in the UK. Annapurna was also placed 14th in the top 100 Mid-sized companies to work for in London. We had previously placed 11th in 2017 and 39th in 2020.

  • Days out with the Directors: Across the business, all leaders are treated to days out with the Directors, such as Wentworth Spa and Golf club.
  • Holiday: A minimum of 20 paid days per year is dedicated to annual leave. Holiday allowances increase with promotion.
  • Birthday Day Off: Don't spend your birthday at work! All employees receive a day off for this very special day.
  • Religious Holiday: As we have a multi-diverse workforce with different religions and beliefs, we ensure time-off for religious celebrations throughout the year.
  • Festive Shutdown: All Annapurna employees get a well-deserved time-off between Christmas and New Year, to celebrate the festive times with family & friends, as the entire company takes a break to start off the new year on the right foot!
  • Volunteer Days Off: As part of Annapurna Giving, employees are entitled to 2 days of volunteering across the year for one of the charities we support.

  • Flexitime: All Annapurna employees are eligible for flexitime working which applies from Monday to Thursday, and on Fridays, we finish an hour early!
  • Flexible Working: All Annapurna employees are entitled to working from home (WFH) days on a weekly basis, to get a mix of office vibes and home setup for work!
  • Working From Anywhere: Upon passing probation, all employees receive 12 working from anywhere (WFA) days per year. These are designed to allow employees to extend holidays or work anywhere in the world!
  • Dependent Hours: All parents can flex their working day to accommodate dependent care.

  • Environmental Committee: Members are responsible for running initiatives to help us become a greener business by reducing our carbon footprint, reducing waste and paper usage.
  • Ellevate Committee: Ellevate is a women’s network within Annapurna to support & promote one another in the workplace. This includes regular workshops, coaching & mentoring, webinars and socials as well as an internal chat for day-to-day support.
